Start SEGi degree with just RM500

Start SEGi degree with just RM500

Posted on January 21, 2010, Thursday. Borneo Post
KUCHING: All Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers can now start their degree programme at SEGi College Sarawak with just RM500.According to a press release from SEGi College Sarawak yesterday, the offer is also open to Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or diploma holders who fulfil the entry requirements set by the Malaysia Qualifications Agency (MQA) for their degree.
Students can also benefit from government loans for their tuition and examination fees during their entire study period.

SPM holders would typically do a four-year degree plan and would only need to pay back the study loans upon graduation.Through SEGi College, the availability of this financial support will enable many students the opportunity to complete their entire degree, which otherwise would have narrowed their options of gaining higher qualifications.

SEGi College Sarawak principal Stella Lau explained that students would need to meet the entry requirements of the degree programmes and the conditions set by the government loan.
“SPM and STPM students who have just finished their exams should take advantage of their holidays to see what SEGi has to offer them,” she said.
The degree programmes under the RM500 package are Business Management, Marketing, Psychology, Finance, Communications and Management.

SEGi College Sarawak also offers a wide range of programmes from foundation level to Master’s degrees.
Its many faculties offer diploma and degree programmes in Business Management, Finance, Law, Information Technology, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Environmental Health, Hotel and Tourism, Graphic Design, Creative Multimedia, Psychology, Communications Marketing, Management, Accountancy, Human Resource Management, Administrative Management, Early Childhood Education, A-Levels and many more.
The college has good working partnerships with reputable and internationally recognised institutions of higher learning such as the University of Sunderland in United Kingdom, University Southern Queensland in Australia, and Upper Iowa University in the US. UCSI students scrutinise workings of hotel industry at Four Points

Borneo Post by Eve Sonary Heng  May 27, 2010, Thursday

KUCHING: Students of UCSI University, Sarawak Campus were recently given the opportunity to look at the operations behind the curtains at Four Points by Sheraton Kuching. ALL EARS: Students give their full attention to some tips from chef Calistus. A press release issued yesterday said the group, consisting of new students as well as those currently undergoing their degree programme had the opportunity to personally see the operational details in the hotel industry.

Led by student affairs manager, Jenice Yeo, the students’ visit was part of UCSI University’s Orientation Week. On hand to meet the students was general manager Paolo Campillo who also gave an insightful presentation on the world of hospitality as well as his life story in the industry.

During the tour of the hotel premises, the students were divided into smaller groups that were led by staff of the hotel. They visited the many different departments in the hotel and listened as their respective group leader briefed them on the functions of each department as well as the daily tasks that the department undertook. Of particular interest to the students was the hotel’s main restaurant, aptly named ‘The Eatery’. There they met with the chefs on duty who enthusiastically explained the daily operations in the different kitchens at the restaurant.

Executive Sous-Chef, chef Yew Seng showed the students the various types of cuisine served in The Eatery and explained how the different types of food were typically prepared and served. The sneak peeks into the banquet kitchen, laundry, employee cafeteria, as well as a suite, clearly thrilled the students although they learned during the visit that working in a hotel was no easy feat. However, the visit had also opened their eyes that it was crucial to have quality services in the hospitality industry.

Four Points by Sheraton Kuching is one of UCSI University, Sarawak Campus’ strategic partners and constantly holds it doors open for all the university’s residents. Field trips to Four Points by Sheraton are normal activities that the team at UCSI University Sarawak Campus regularly organises to enrich students’learning experience.

Programmes offered at UCSI University Sarawak Campus are Event and Tourism Management, Hospitality Management, Commerce (with majors in International Business, Industrial Relations, and Retail Management), Hotel Management, Foundation Studies and GCE A-Levels. Diploma programmes in Culinary Arts as well as Leisure and Attraction will also be introduced at the end of the year.

Planning For Education

Education planning is important apart from learning. When I was 15, I dreamed that one day I will be able to become a successful veterinarian.
